We Believe
Mayfield Independent School District believes technology can be a powerful tool for learning. We also believe in order to prepare our students for the "digital world" they live in, exposing them to a variety of technologies is essential to teach them the skills they will need. We stand behind the fact that technology is only a tool, and like every other tool we use on a daily basis, using it safely is the first lesson that must be learned. We strive to ensure all our faculty, staff and students know how to use digital resources safely, responsibly, effectively and efficiently.
Our Classrooms
The classrooms in our schools are equipped with modern technology that can assist in teaching and learning whether it be visually, auditorily, by reading/writing or kinesthetically. Each classroom has a SMART MX-075-V2 interactive panel with the full SMART Learning Suite and a teacher workstation. All students have Chromebooks grades K-12.
Our Network
Thanks to funding through the Erate/USF grant, were were able to do a complete network refresh in the Spring of 2023. We have abundant, high speed wireless access in all areas of our buildings as well as an up to date, robust network that affords us the best connectivity options available.
Our Chromebooks
We provide Chromebooks to students in grades K-12. We allow students to take them home at night, over the weekend and during breaks. We have a software the monitors and filters content for all Chromebooks. While unfiltered cell phones and personal tablets/desktops allow many opportunities for inappropriate content to be accessed/displayed, and we believe the filtering solution we have in place on the Chromebooks is an excellent tool, no tool is 100% fail proof and we try to make sure parents are aware of that by discussing these things in detail within our Acceptable Use Guidelines document.
Please note that parents/guardians have complete control over when the devices are used, what they are used for and how much they are used, outside the school day. Some parents embrace the access and monitor it themselves, or monitor through the GoGuardian Parent app (available to all our parents). Some parents chose to put the Chromebooks away when they arrive home, after homework is done (if applicable) and not allow access until they go back for use the next school day. We support the parents right to chose the management style that best fits your families values and your parenting style.
The reason we send them home regularly is because we need the students to have the devices with them in case we have long stretch of unexpected NTI days due to weather, sickness, or other unforeseeable events that would render us needing to learn from home. We need students and parents to know how to navigate the device and their Google Classroom(s) before events like these occur. We hope that students will be encouraged to use them to do homework, watch educational videos/tutorials and play educational games as parents see appropriate.
Please take time to allow your student(s) to show you their Chromebooks and their homework each day in Google Classroom. Use that time see what your child is learning and to have open conversations about being safe online and what your expectations of appropriate online behaviors look like. We have similar conversations at school, as the opportunity presents itself.
If your student needs repairs to their device, please tell your student to have their teacher put in a tech ticket. All teachers know what that means. If the issue isn't resolved, or continues to recur even after the device has been fixed, please reach out to a member of the tech team at the contact information listed below.
If you ever need help in any way, the tech team is just a phone call or email away. Feel free to call 270-247-8299 or email [email protected].
